A stupa is a dome or mound-like monument that is used as a Buddhist shrine for meditation, worship and storage of the holy relics. That Luang is not just any stupa though, it is the most revered and sacred stupa in all of Laos, aptly called The Great Golden Stupa. The main stupa in the center stands at a height of more than 45 meters in all its golden glory and unless you visit Vientiane, you will miss out on looking at the grandest surviving stupa in all of Laos that was built over four centuries ago.
The Giant Vientiane Night Market is a Gorgeous and Unique Place
The Vientiane Night Market is beautiful, and part of a unique experience which can only be had at Vientiane because of its location, more than anything else. Situated just on the side of the Mekong River, visit the night market during sunset and you will be blown away by the beauty of the place. Also, once you have taken in the natural splendor, spend some time shopping and bargaining at the stalls of the market, which all have beautiful, matching red roofs, adding more beauty to the place. As far as the products are concerned, they consist of traditional memorabilia that people collect from Laos on their travels, lots of clothes, some cheap electronics and if you delve in deep enough, unique items that you will truly find nowhere else.
The Nightlife is Pretty Awesome
Vientiane is not only famous for its temples and stupas, but you can actually find an active nightlife here as well, as there is no shortage of bars in Vientiane Laos. The Elephant Lounge on the ground floor of Crowne Plaza Vientiane for example, is a casual, yet classy place to spend some relaxing time with a few drinks after a hard day of walking and sightseeing. The Elephant Lounge is also the place where you will find one of Laos’s best original whiskies, manufactured exclusively for the Crowne Plaza Vientiane hotel.
All the nightclubs, lounges and bars are supposed to close shop by 12 a.m. but they usually stay open till 3 a.m. on most nights.
Keep in mind that this is just an introduction to what makes the capital city one of the best places to spend most of your time in while visiting Laos. There are a ton of other things to do and see in the city and all of that together makes Vientiane truly the greatest city in the whole country.
